Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Lee Viarruel — known today as GORILLA BOOMIN (G//BMN:) — is a singer first: a live entertainer, tenor steelpan musician, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer. From Caribbean bandstands and international stages to his creative base in Romania, his journey is built on real audiences, real musicianship and an enduring love of performance.
Beginning his performing career at age 11, Lee developed a versatile stage presence through live bands, vocals, percussion and steelpan. His experience includes cruise-ship ensembles, lounge and event performances, and an international journey that has taken him to Japan, Bangkok in Thailand, and Miami in the United States. Today he brings those roots into contemporary club music, original productions and live performance.
Before G//BMN:, Lee built his stagecraft as a working vocalist in Trinidad & Tobago’s live music scene. His band history includes Image & Company (after the Kes and Ghetto Flex era), Shandileer / Chandelier (following Ronnie McIntosh’s tenure), Ajala’s live band and Rishi Mahatoo’s Melobugz. Singing across these musical settings shaped the versatility, Caribbean rhythmic instinct and audience connection that remain central to his work today.
His international performing journey spans Japan, Bangkok (Thailand), Miami (USA), and cruise-ship orchestral and lounge settings, alongside encounters with musicians and audiences across the Caribbean. His archive captures him singing, drumming, DJing, recording and performing tenor steelpan.
As Man of Steel, Lee brings tenor steelpan to sophisticated live entertainment: soulful melodies, jazz and lounge selections, familiar songs reimagined on pan, and Caribbean rhythm when the moment calls for it. The concept draws directly on his long-standing experience as a working performer.
GORILLA BOOMIN unites the singer, DJ, producer and steelpan performer in one contemporary artist identity. His music moves across house, bass-driven club sounds, soca, dancehall and global influences — always rooted in groove, powerful low end and unmistakable performance energy. REAL ARTIST. UNREAL WORLD.
Band history is based on Lee’s firsthand recollections; exact dates are not presented as independently verified.

THE ROOTS. THE RHYTHM. THE LEGACY.

Before the stages, studios, and music that carried me across oceans, there was Trinidad — and the unmistakable voice of the steelpan.
Port of Spain is a tribute to the place that gave me my roots, the musicians who inspired my journey, and the instrument that will forever be part of my identity. Today I carry those influences into my own musical universe, where Caribbean heritage meets contemporary production, powerful rhythms, and the sounds of tomorrow.
I don't play the pan simply to remember where I came from. I play it to show the world where we can go.
BORN IN TRINIDAD. INSPIRED BY LEGENDS. DRIVEN BY THE FUTURE.
Ken “Professor” Philmore and Len “Boogsie” Sharpe — two extraordinary steelpan visionaries whose artistry helped shape my musical journey. Their music showed me that pan is more than an instrument: it is a voice capable of crossing boundaries, telling stories, and moving the world.
